Bridgend council fights to save town center Post Office, calling it a crucial service for residents and businesses.

The Post Office said this year that many branches might close. Over one hundred Crown branches face closure, and about a thousand postal workers could lose their jobs.
Crown Post Offices differ from regular ones. Crown branches are bigger and directly managed, while most other offices are run by partners. Bridgend only has one Crown Post Office, on Dunraven Place; closures could hurt families and local businesses.
Councillor Bennett wants to protect the post office from cuts, emphasizing that these places do more than just mail. They’re important community spots that help residents, businesses, and workers thrive.
Crown Post Offices offer many key services. People can bank, pay bills, and apply for passports there, and they also handle licenses and pensions. These are lifelines for folks needing in-person help.
Councillor Jane Gebbie also supported the move, saying they should formally oppose the closure idea. She urged all members to support this action.
After discussion, everyone agreed on the motion. They will send a protest letter to the Post Office and a government minister. They want residents to join the fight to keep offices open.
The council will aid post office workers facing job loss. They will get training and job help, in addition to the council offering programs for job retraining.
