Bridgend Council made a budget plan, which the council cabinet approved. It goes to the full council next week. School music won’t get cut.

The budget is for 2025-26, and council tax will likely rise, possibly by 4.5%. They shared their plan on February 18.

They listened to over 1600 people, and councillors also had meetings. The total budget could be £383.3 million.

Schools get over £123 million, while social services receive £115 million. The chief executive gets £24.8 million, and communities get £33.7 million.

Vulnerable adults and kids will receive aid, and roads will be fixed, including potholes. Disabled people can fix their homes, and music funding will not be removed.

Big public input changed initial plans, but the council still needs to save money. Cuts and higher taxes are still possible.

Meals-at-home services may end, and CCTV might have limited hours. Bulky waste fees could increase, and burial fees may also rise.

Schools could save money through various measures, but this might lead to job losses. Cllr. Evans expressed a desire for more feedback next year.

Cllr. Spanswick says they listen and do their best in tough times. The council votes on Feb 26, and they also vote on long-term assets.
