Stadium project seeks to ease travel issues via Sandhills Station upgrades, addressing safety worries.

Transport issues worry people near the stadium. The team had a test event at the new stadium where ten thousand fans watched the under 18s play. The stadium holds 52,888 people, and some fans found traveling tough and even scary.
Fans saw crowding at Sandhills Station. One fan called the scene “terrifying,” citing the platform was very packed, as pictures show. A fan zone was also criticized, described as metal fences in a car park. Supporters want changes before big games start.
A rail project aims to help with crowds; it’s called the Stanley Dock Rail Access project. The Liverpool City Region gave £4.2 million to it, and the city council got a planning application for the station. They are looking at the proposals now.
The stadium will impact Sandhills Station a lot. Over 50,000 fans could use the station. The plan includes a staircase and a footbridge which would increase station capacity and help people get to platforms.
The plans include an emergency escape route connecting to Dunes Way using a footpath. There would also be a new, secure area, with trained staff to manage access on game days. The new footbridge adds a safer exit.
The council has not decided on the plan, and the footbridge application expires on March 14. The ECHO asked for an update on the project, which is from the Combined Authority, focusing on improving the station.
