Bolton Council set to decide on the 2025/26 budget. Council tax may rise but some proposed charges were dropped.

The town hall needed money, but they got more government funding than expected. This helped their money situation, and they received grants for children’s care and recovery.
They plan to use savings to balance things. This amount from reserves is £17.4 million, which covers the next two years.
Council tax might increase, and other changes could affect locals too. A typical household could pay £119 more per year, which is for a Band D property.
The council wanted to charge £45 yearly for garden waste. After resident feedback, they dropped this idea because many people participated.
They also won’t cut environmental officers and support for town center events will continue. Street cleaning will improve, waste removal will also get better, free bulky waste collection stays, and pest control will get a boost.
Nick Peel leads Bolton Council and said the government funding helps. They still need money for services as demand is growing for children and adult care.
Peel said they listened to the people and he is happy they removed some cuts. The final budget vote is coming soon on February 12th at the town hall.
