Dramatic footage reveals arrest of Tyjon Cogger and Saabir Mohamed linked to a Smethwick car park shooting in October 2023.

Tyjon Cogger and Saabir Mohamed were arrested and connected by police to the shooting victim. The victim, in his twenties, was shot in the leg in Smethwick. CCTV footage captured the event.
The attack, which happened in October 2023, led to the conviction of both men for firearm offences. Cogger, age twenty-three, received an eighteen-and-a-half-year sentence, while Mohamed, age twenty-six, got twenty years and eight months.
Hospital staff alerted West Midlands Police after associates dropped off a man with gunshot wounds at City Hospital in Birmingham. He had injuries to his leg and foot. The victim arrived in an Audi car.
The victim did not tell police what happened. Using CCTV, police tracked the Audi car back to the shooting at Cape Hill Retail Park’s car park.
CCTV showed the Audi entering the car park with another vehicle. Soon after, a Ford Kuga arrived, driven by Cogger. The Kuga drove around aimlessly. Police believe they sought the victim and his associates.
Mohamed exited a car in the CCTV and fired a sawn-off shotgun two times, police said. Police worked intensely on the case, studying many hours of CCTV footage and examining telecommunications data.
Detective Inspector Francis Nock of the Major Crime Unit spoke after the case. He said officers worked incredibly hard to piece together the events, spending hours looking at CCTV. This hard work identified Cogger and Mohamed, bringing them to justice.
Nock stated the men are dangerous and are now in prison, making streets safer. The convictions relate to Operation Target, a fight against serious crime spanning the whole region. Officers continuously combat gun crime, drugs, money laundering, and child exploitation.
