Blackpool is set for a lighting upgrade with new features like a canopy and column lighting on key streets.

A light canopy is possible on Corporation Street, outside the Grand Theatre. The Illuminations department will design and build it. They may also enhance the Brilliance arch on Birley Street.
The Town Deal Board discussed the upgrades in February. Council funds from the Shared Prosperity Fund will pay for the project. Groups like the BID helped develop the proposals.
New lighting features already wrap street lights along High Street. Green projects will use £100,000; these projects include Topping Street and Houndshill Plaza.
Shopfronts at Stanley Buildings will receive £350,000. They are making it a small business hub on Church Street. The goal is to attract tenants and reduce empty shops.
The fund also aided events: Lightpool Festival received £15,000, and Monster Hunt got £47,500. Both events occurred during October’s half-term break.
Blackpool Council received £5 million in government funds in 2022. They allocated £1.5 million for town centre improvements.
