Blackpool’s job hub, The Platform, will continue for another year, assisting young people into employment.

The government likes The Platform and wants other areas to copy it. Councillors were told that many people need The Platform’s help to get work.
One councillor, Diane Mitchell, spoke about job barriers. Hoteliers struggle to find workers, and mental health impacts job seeking. Confidence is also very important, as some tests are hard for young people, such as those at McDonald’s.
Donna Clayton runs adult learning classes and says The Platform tackles these issues. Some people feel too nervous to visit, so they work with partners like the Job Centre. They help people see what they are good at.
The Platform helps with interview skills, teaching people how to dress, and explaining job applications and CVs. They also build people’s confidence.
Furthermore, they help people get qualifications. You can gain English and maths skills, even if you missed out at school.
The Platform started in January 2022 and helps 16 to 24 year olds who aren’t working or studying. Council advisors work with Jobcentre Plus staff, and other agencies also give their support.
From 2022 to 2024, The Platform helped 1,471 people. 371 got skills or training, and 489 found jobs, thanks to their services.
