Plans for a Blackpool family support center denied following five objections from local residents and service concerns.

The council used its powers to refuse permission and received five complaints from neighbors nearby. Adult and children’s services also opposed it, stating there was no need for such a center because a past service closed due to low demand and enough space existed in the North West already.
Neighbors worried the house was wrong for this purpose and feared it’d affect the community, perhaps straining local doctors. The group had planned to house up to four families, offering support for 12 to 16 weeks, with a trained team working with them. The group felt the location fulfilled a need.
The planning statement said the center would guide parents, helping them build vital care skills. Parents could demonstrate their ability to create safe homes.
Documents stated there was “significant demand” for this type of service, with referrals potentially coming from local authorities or courts.
