Drivers in Birmingham face hefty fines, totaling £14m in 5 years, mainly due to bus lane violations on key roads based on FOI request.

Brakewells Transport made a request using the Freedom of Information Act, asking Birmingham City Council for details. The council issued 414,479 penalties from 2019 to 2024. The fines equaled £13,875,634.
Moor Street Queensway tops the list, costing drivers the most money with over 150,000 fines. Sheepcote Street is next with 140,000+ fines, followed by Bordesley Green, with about 33,000 penalties issued.
Brakewells offered advice for drivers to learn fine “hotspots” to avoid getting caught. They also recommended that people appeal penalties if they think they’re wrong.
Moor Street Queensway had 153,984 fines. Sheepcote Street: 140,501. Bordesley Green: 33,176. St Martin’s Queensway follows, totaling 32,191 fines.
The Priory Queensway had 14,969 fines, and Lichfield Road saw 13,361 fines. Horton Square Southbound had 11,701, while Pershore Road’s total reached 7,616 fines. Bull Street accounted for 5,716, and Tyburn Road clocked 5,670.
Corporation Street resulted in 5,146 fines. Horton Square Northbound totaled 1,177. Finally, Longmore Street Northbound had the least, only reaching about 972 fines.
