Saqib Ali faces years in prison for wounding and assault after hitting officers with his car during a drug arrest.

This incident occurred in February 2024. The officers were “shouting and pleading,” wanting Ali to stop his car. The police bodycam caught the event, which was a very “distressing” scene to watch. One officer had serious leg injuries and is still recovering.
The incident happened on Reservoir Place. Another officer also suffered injuries. Ali drove at them on purpose. The trial happened at Birmingham Crown Court.
Ali was found guilty this week of both wounding and assault. He had earlier admitted drug dealing. He will receive his sentence later.
Police found Ali parked on Reservoir Place around 10:30 AM on February 24th. An officer, PC Bull, approached the car and saw Ali almost asleep in the driver’s seat. PC Bull thought Ali was using drugs or alcohol.
PC Kidd stood in front of Ali’s car, while PC Bull asked Ali to show his hands. They planned a search of the vehicle. Ali then put the car in gear and drove forward, trapping PC Kidd against the police van.
PC Bull was stuck in the driver’s door against the van. After about thirty seconds, Ali reversed the car. PC Bull fell, then opened the car door and used a taser on Ali. Then, Ali drove away and turned onto Darlaston Road.
Both officers went to the hospital. PC Bull suffered tissue damage and bruises. PC Kidd had very serious leg injuries, requiring surgery and rehabilitation.
Ali was arrested the next day in a Volkswagen Passat in Oldbury. Police found Class A drugs on him, which proved to be crack cocaine.
Detective Sergeant Phil Hinton spoke about the case. He stated that bodycam video was key evidence, and that Ali will likely go to prison for many years.
