Birmingham City Council needed cash. They sold five properties at auction on February 7. The sales happened in about thirty minutes. The council must get £1 billion by 2026. This money will pay for services and settlements.

The council sold assets to fill funding gaps. Bond Wolfe held the auction for them. A former children’s center was a top seller. It was on Merrishaw Road, in Northfield. The children’s center had a guide price of £200,000.

It sold for £351,000 because of high interest. The property is vacant and could be redeveloped. Industrial land on Cato Street in Nechells sold too. Number 92 sold for £50,000. Number 94 sold for £57,000.

Two houses also went to new owners. A house on Netherdale Road, in Hollywood, got £125,000. Another house on Chilcote Close, in Hall Green, sold for £224,000. A land lot on Belchers Lane was withdrawn.

Land on The Fordrough in Northfield stayed unsold. The highest bid was £199,500, just short of the goal. It’s unclear if the land will be re-auctioned. The total from property sales was £809,000.
