Adam Williams, Michael Smith, and Connor Walsh faced trial at Liverpool Crown Court. They were accused of his murder. The jury found them guilty of the charges, which also included firearm possession.
Before Berry’s death, Williams was attacked. This was reported to the police. This happened on July 5, twelve days prior.
The prosecutor mentioned an “incident” involving Williams and others. Williams was with a friend and girlfriend when young men on bikes pursued them. They seemed to target Williams only.
The prosecutor added that no police stopped Williams, but Williams’ partner filed a complaint. The vehicle was linked to Williams at that time, but no stop check was made.
The prosecution said someone had a problem with Williams, and they tried to attack him. Williams did not report the attack itself, though.
Police then checked the vehicle and linked it to Williams. Williams claimed he had no issues with anyone, but the prosecution doubted this claim.
The prosecution chose not to show this evidence. The masked attackers were never identified, and they could not link them to Berry’s murder.
Williams reported “he was alright.” The attackers wanted his car keys and tried to grab them from his pocket. The car was a black Seat Ateca Cupra.
Williams drove an SUV during the shooting. It traveled with the shooter, Smith. This occurred after a “reconnaissance mission” where they checked where victim Berry worked.
Williams and Walsh denied involvement. They said they didn’t know about any planned killing. Williams said Ryan Westhead reported Berry shouted at them.
Walsh’s DNA was on a bullet casing and located on the firearm magazine. That night, Walsh rode his bike near the scene with his son and nephew.
During trial, Smith admitted manslaughter and firearm possession. He initially denied murder. He was the bike rider, but he didn’t testify. His lawyer stated that he might have wanted to “frighten” Berry.
