Belfast will close two recycling centers for work. The closures are temporary, for essential repairs. Ormeau Park Road and Palmerston Road centers will close. These East Belfast centers close in February and March 2025.

The closures will happen at different times. This ensures people have other options. Park Road closes February 16 to March 9. Palmerston Road closes March 9 to March 31.

Repair work happened at other recycling centers already. Alexandra center had steel plates added in October 2024. Park Road and Palmerston need similar repairs soon. This work keeps the centers safe.

The concrete is breaking down where they keep skips. This makes it unsafe for staff and contractors. Fixing this ensures the centers can stay open. Not fixing it could force them to completely close. They must close for repairs to happen.

The schedule might change due to weather. The council will post updates on social media and signs will be at each center entrance. Setting up temporary sites is not possible. People can use other recycling centers.

A council member said they will spread the word. People may still say they did not know about the closures. He asked about adding pedestrian access to Palmerston, suggesting this could be a good opportunity to explore that idea.

A council official replied about pedestrian access and said they are getting price quotes for work at Palmerston. They plan to prioritize Palmerston and will seek funding after getting proposals. Architects and engineers are drawing up plans.
