Balkan Gang Cultivated £400k Cannabis Farm Busted After Power Outage
An electrical company called the cops on February 23 because they saw strange power use at a building in Bedale. The irregular power caused a village power outage, and the supplier told police what they noticed.
Police went to Jubilee Road in Aiskew and saw two people running away. They called for a police helicopter to assist, and quickly found the two suspects. They arrested them for drug supply.
The arrested men were in their 30s, and police think they worked for a crime group. This group operates in the Western Balkan region of Europe, so the men face cannabis production charges now and will appear in court soon.
Inside the building, police found a large weed farm with thousands of plants in growing areas. The street value was about £395,000 to £494,000, and it was a very professional operation.
Superintendent Teresa Lam spoke about cannabis farms, saying they cause a lot of harm and criminal gangs use the money from the farm. They fund human trafficking and other crimes. They also sell heroin and cocaine.
She said the farms have safety problems like electrical issues that happen often. She thanked the electric company for its help and asked people to report suspicious activity, especially landlords and agents.
