Asbestos was found at Pimlico and Stockwell stations. TfL insists it’s safely contained and poses no risk.

An FOI request showed asbestos at both stations. Reports say it’s in the cement, which is present in several areas.
Stockwell’s report mentioned platform tunnels and cable ducts on platforms 1, 2, and 4, which contain asbestos. The last check was in August. Platform 3’s cable ducts also contain asbestos, and electrical boxes may also be affected.
Pimlico has asbestos in several spots. A May inspection found it in the lobby, and both platforms also have asbestos in the cement. TfL checks stations regularly to ensure public safety.
A TfL officer said the Underground is old and asbestos is in many places. Public areas have sealed asbestos which is unreachable. Asbestos in open areas poses no risk.
The officer stated asbestos safety rarely changes. If a change occurs, they do a risk assessment, and then encapsulate, encase, or remove the asbestos.
TfL follows national rules for managing asbestos. They keep a list of asbestos locations, inspect those locations regularly, and monitor air quality during any asbestos work.
