Three men face court for arson, accused of endangering John Henry Sayers life in Newcastle vehicle fires.

Walter Patterson, Grant Royal, and Grant Curley are the men. They are all from County Durham. They are accused of setting two vehicles on fire. This happened in Newcastle in January and February.
In court, all three said they weren’t guilty. They denied trying to endanger Sayers’ life. The VW Golf was his and burned January 31. Patterson and Curley admitted being reckless that night. Royal denied that and driving illegally January 31.
Curley admitted trying to endanger Sayers’ life February 2. A Range Rover was damaged then. The owner is unknown. Patterson denied intent but admitted being reckless that day. Royal denied arson and illegal driving February 2.
Their trial starts in July. It should last about five days. The judge told them the trial date. There will be two more hearings before the trial.
They must attend those via video link. The judge explained what they need to do. They must create a defense statement. It should thoroughly explain their defense.
Patterson is 37 and from Sherburn Hill. Royal is 49 and from Durham. Curley is 34 and from Murton. All three are in custody until the next hearing.
