Folks are upset about blocked mountain access. Huge gates now stop people from using the path. The route is near Cwmparc and Treorchy. Locals used it for walks and other activities and even schools enjoyed it.

The gates went up on Thursday, February 13. People worry they can’t reach the forest, which is managed by Natural Resources Wales. Residents contacted officials for help, speaking with council members and their MP.

The gates were removed for now while officials check access rights. The council says it’s private land, and this route isn’t formally registered.

David Williams, a lifelong resident nearby, remembers years of public access. He thinks it’s wrong to close it and people are very angry about this situation. A petition may start if the gates return.

David hopes they have a right of way as they have used the road for over 20 years. It’s the only way to reach that area, and cyclists and horse riders could face problems.

Kirsty Thomas is also concerned about access as her family has connections to the area for decades. People frequently use the land for nature activities, and even a local school uses it for such purposes.

Kirsty’s daughter enjoys the mountain too, and she says her dad used that road. That access has been used for about 70 years. It feels like something is being unexpectedly taken away, and she wants her daughter to enjoy it, too.

Natural Resources Wales knows about the issue, stating that people have contacted them. They are looking into their legal position and will share updates soon.

The council stated the road isn’t a right of way and the gates meet height rules for that area. The council confirms it is also private land and cannot comment on legal matters, which are between owners and access rights.
