New Toxicator ride at Alton Towers closes briefly on its first day due to a burst pipe; reopened shortly after cleanup.

The park announced the ride on January 13, 2025. It was first called ‘Project Ocean’ and is a Huss Suspended Top Spin ride. This ride exists in the Forbidden Valley section within the park, which covers a large 910-acre area.
The Toxicator stands 78 feet tall. It’s the only top spin above ground, allowing people to watch from underneath. On March 15, fans had to wait to ride as the brand-new ride had to close briefly.
Eyewitnesses mentioned brown liquid near the entrance, but Alton Towers clarified it wasn’t sewage. A burst pipe nearby caused the issue. The ride paused for a short cleanup, and people returned less than an hour later.
Witnesses described an ‘evacuation’ of the area, with some joking it was a ‘toxic incident’. Alton Towers responded to a guest on social media, explaining that Toxicator stopped due to a broken pipe close by. They apologized for the problems and indicated they didn’t expect a same-day reopening, suggesting guests check the Alton Towers app for updates.
Some fans compared it to the old Ripsaw ride, which was popular from 1997 for almost 20 years. However, park bosses have emphasized that Toxicator is different.
Toxicator promises a wild spinning experience where riders flip back-to-back facing down, dangling over alien sludge. When running well, it serves over 500 riders each hour.
The ride is located in Forbidden Valley, described as a battleground setting. The park focuses on aliens and science themes in this area.
