Security delays at Liverpool Airport caused a traveler to miss her flight, losing money on travel plans.

Rachel arrived at the airport at 6:30 AM for her 7:45 AM flight. Airport improvements led to the closure of many security desks, creating a large security line.
The airport is installing new security equipment that will allow laptops and liquids to stay in bags. While they typically suggest arriving two hours early, they now recommend three due to the ongoing work. Unfortunately, Rachel arrived only one hour and fifteen minutes early.
Rachel reported that only three security desks were open. Even though she was near the front of the line, she experienced delays. Staff prioritized passengers with earlier flights, causing her to miss boarding.
While waiting, her app indicated boarding was in progress. Staff assured her she would be fine, but Rachel says that wasn’t the case. Other travelers also missed their flights due to the delays.
As a result, she lost her flights, accommodation, and restaurant reservations. Although she could have purchased a later flight for seventy-two pounds, it seemed pointless for just a few hours in Lithuania.
Rachel expressed her frustration with half of the security desks being closed during school vacation. Having taken the day off work for the trip, she is now taking the bus back home.
The airport reiterates its recommendation to arrive three hours early to mitigate security wait times. The work is expected to be completed by mid-March. They apologize for the inconvenience and ask for patience.
The new equipment will streamline the process by allowing electronics and liquids below 100ml to remain in bags. While processing times are currently slower than usual, the airport is working to improve efficiency soon.
