Historic Aintree pub, the Old Roan, slated for demolition to make way for apartments after standing for centuries.

The pub could be 400 years old. It opened as a pub in 1908 but closed in 2013. People used it for events, including weddings and parties.
Sefton Council approved demolition plans, paving the way for 26 new apartments. These apartments will consist of one and two bedroom units.
David wants to change funding rules to allocate money for heritage sites. His goal is to restore old buildings, believing it benefits the economy and community.
The site is labeled a heritage asset, but a statement declared its poor condition. It has sat empty for over ten years, and reopening the pub isn’t seen as feasible. The document stated that demolition is the only option due to the building’s run-down state.
David hopes to talk with the owners, acknowledging the challenges, and consider new ideas. He wants to find a good solution.
David values old buildings, stating they have economic merit and heritage value. The Old Roan has a unique style and has been there for centuries. The ECHO contacted the owner for their comment.
