Some sheep at a nature reserve were hurt. The Ainsdale Local Nature Reserve had a dog attack. The attack happened sometime before February 25th. People noticed sheep were missing during a routine check.

These sheep help the environment there. They eat plants and aid other species. Natterjack toads and sand lizards benefit. Northern tiger beetles also thrive because of them.

Workers found the sheep on Wednesday. They took them to a vet. The vet confirmed dog bites caused the injuries. One sheep was so hurt, they had to put it down. Two sheep are getting medical care. One sheep is still missing after the attack.

Officials ask dog owners to help protect the sheep. Keep dogs on leads near the sheep. A council member is very concerned. She urges people to be careful with dogs.

The sheep are important for the local area. Visitors should respect them. A countryside officer wants this to stop. He says dogs need leads near animals. Turn around if you see grazing sheep/cattle. This avoids disturbing or scaring them.

The Wildlife Trust is also upset. The sheep benefit nature and people. They want dog owners to know the damage. Spring is close, so protect young birds too.

Sefton Council has advice for everyone. Report dog attacks immediately by calling 999. Know the local rules to protect the environment. The PSPO ensures a safe visit.
