Jamie Konzak broke into a Derby Starbucks and stole a bag, a car, and staff items. The Derby Crown Court heard the case, presenting CCTV footage of Konzak. Police found him in a phone box with the stolen car parked outside.

Konzak, 40, has over 100 past offenses and has been in custody since the crime. His best friend recently died from an overdose. A judge warned Konzak about his drug use, saying it could kill him too.

Judge Jonathan Smart addressed Konzak, acknowledging that drugs help him cope with stress. He noted that many of Konzak’s friends had died from drugs and cautioned that Konzak could be next. The judge granted Konzak bail but stipulated that he must return next week for sentencing. The judge stated he would not jail him unless he committed further offenses.

Prosecutor Denney Lau stated that Konzak’s crime occurred on February 2. A Starbucks worker had left his coat in the back room. This Starbucks is located at the Little Eaton roundabout, formerly the Little Chef.

Another worker arrived for her shift and placed her bag on a table. Later, someone saw a man on crutches near the trash bins outside. Shortly after, she noticed her bag and car were missing from the site.

The other worker also realized items had disappeared. CCTV footage showed Konzak taking things. The car was found by a Derby phone box at 8:30 PM. Konzak was inside the phone box. He walked away, but police stopped him and found the car keys on his person.

Konzak lives on Swaledale Court. He admitted to theft and car theft. He has 108 offenses on his record. In 2023, he broke into his neighbor’s home and stole a VW Passat and drove away.

He took keys, a wallet, a passport, and a speaker during the prior break-in, which occurred on August 6. In 2019, he received 18 weeks in jail for threatening to blow up his family’s house, with his mother and brother inside. He had barricaded them inside during this event, which occurred May 12-13 in Ashbourne.

Justin Ablott, Konzak’s lawyer, stated that Konzak has been in custody since February. Ablott explained, that Konzak has endured significant loss, including the recent death of his brother. He also said Another brother died eight weeks ago, and His best friend died two weeks ago from a drug overdose.
