Accrington Victoria Hospital faces vandalism. Clare Pritchard wants better security there. She is a Hyndburn Councillor. The hospital closed in December. It was built in 1894.

Kids are risking their safety at the site. It contains asbestos. People are posting videos online, which encourages more visits. Pritchard says security is lacking. The local Labour councillor feels residents are worried.

Emergency services are strained now. Police responded twice in one day, and the fire service also came. Pritchard thinks the trust shows a lack of care. She wants the trust to improve security and urges them to protect the building, as the police and emergency services are frustrated.

Tony McDonald spoke for the East Lancashire Hospitals Trust. They finished decommissioning in mid-January. He stated that the site is secure now but shares worries about the vandalism. The building’s condition made them move services. Danger signs warn about asbestos, and they don’t want anyone entering. Some people are forcing their way in anyway.

McDonald appreciates others face vandalism, too. They spoke with police and fire services and followed all their advice. Police will keep patrolling the area. Their estates team acts as well. A security firm is helping too. They know the building matters to the community, and they promised to work with them on its future.

The police know about the Accrington Victoria Hospital issue. They received reports of nuisance and bad behavior. They are securing the site with partners.
