Council tenants in Aberdeenshire will see a 5% rent increase starting in April following agreement with tenants.

Weekly rent will go up by about £4.63. Someone paying £92.56 will pay £97.19. The council talked to tenants before deciding this. They agreed to raise rent 5% each year for three years.
This plan should make over £4.69 million. Another rise should happen next year. The full council discussed the rent change. An official, Alan Wood, thinks the fees are fair.
Councillor Anne Stirling said they talked a lot with tenants. Tenants wanted steady rent increases, she mentioned. The council thinks it’s affordable for all. The 5% rise also applies to Greenbanks and Aikey Brae.
Allotment rents will also increase by 5%. But heat and light costs will decrease. The average three-bedroom cost drops to £46.53 from £60.90.
People only paying for heat will also pay less. For a two-bedroom place, it drops to £16.56 from £21.67. These new rates start April 1.
