Aberdeen Market is now FLINT. The £40 million food and drink hall is underway, aiming for a 2027 opening date.

McGinty’s Group will run the market, choosing “FLINT” as the name. It references the area’s ancient tool-making past, specifically the flintknapping that happened there 8,000 years ago.
The market is scheduled to open in 2027. It’s a key part of Aberdeen’s city plan, which aims to revamp the city center; It is the biggest update since the 1800s
FLINT aims to revitalize The Green with local vendors selling food and drinks inside, creating a vibrant food hall. The market is intended to be more than just a shopping location.
The market will have a large outdoor area to host pop-up markets and events. It also seeks to improve connectivity. This space will connect the bus and rail station to Union Street.
More details will be announced soon, after the council chose FLINT from over 400 suggested names.

Workers found flint blades on The Green in 1976, inspiring the name. The finds suggest very early work, with craftsmen having worked there long ago.
