The police got a call about a man with a knife. The call came from near Pittodrie Stadium around 4:50 pm. The video seems to show a police car speeding up and hitting a man dressed in black.
Cops said they used special tactics for safety. They wanted to protect the public and themselves. They found a knife at the scene. The video shows the car hitting the man, who seemed to follow an officer, went over the car’s hood, and then fell to the ground. Several officers showed up, including a dog handler.
A police dog got hurt. The dog’s name is Zeus, and he is a six-year-old Belgian Malinois. Vets treated Zeus, and he is now home.
The man got treatment at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. They charged him with several crimes, one charge involves the Animal and Welfare Act. A 27-year-old got arrested because of the incident. He will be in court on Monday, March 3.
Seaforth Road was shut down near Park Road while they investigated the scene. It reopened around 1:15 pm on Saturday. The police think this was just one event and the public is not in danger. No officers were hurt during this.
Superintendent Ross Kelly spoke about the dog and wants Zeus to recover quickly. He said police dogs are important, and it is wrong to hurt them. The police dog unit is key for safety because these animals help so much.
The police also said they sent a report about everything to a review commissioner who will investigate the incident. Police are in the area, and people can talk to if they have worries. Call 101 with questions.
