Roadwork on Great Southern Road starts March 11, causing detours and bus stop changes until July 21.

SSEN will begin work on March 11, starting at 5 AM, to replace electric cables on Great Southern Road’s southbound lanes. The work should finish on July 21 at 10 PM. The work zone spans from Whinhill to Duthie Park roundabouts.
Drivers will detour via Holburn Street, Riverside Place, and Riverside Drive. Northbound lanes will stay open. Stagecoach’s X7 bus won’t stop at Duthie Park; a temporary stop is at Riverside Drive’s end. Buses toward Aberdeen aren’t affected.
This is part of a bigger project. SSEN is replacing city center cables in a 10-month project between Redmoss and Clayhills substations. Expect more road closures soon, including Ferryhill Road, Fonthill Road and Millburn Street. West Tullos and Whinhill Roads are also affected.
SSEN said South College Street won’t close, as it recently caused traffic problems. This project will improve power in Aberdeen by replacing old cables, aiming to make the power supply reliable. Existing underground tunnels will be used to minimize disruptions.
