Cambridgeshire & Peterborough secure £6.5m to enhance walking, cycling, and wheeling routes thanks to Active Travel England funding.

In late 2024, they got £1.6 million. They’ll use this to make quick improvements. These changes will happen within two years. Paths will be clearer, and school routes will be safer for kids.
Solar lights will improve nighttime visibility. Crossings at roads will become easier. Early in 2025, £4.9 million came through. This focuses on good walking and cycling paths. It also supports activities and officer training.
This investment brings many good things. People can walk more safely, wheelchairs will move easier, and cycling will feel safer too. The mayor, Nik Johnson, is very happy.
He wanted to raise the area’s active travel profile. This money helps people choose how they travel. It makes shorter trips safer and easier for them. Cambridgeshire and Peterborough received the most funding per person.
It is a vote of confidence from the government. The investment improves health, reduces traffic and pollution, and will result in a greener area. Residents will feel results quickly. Alex Beckett, from the county council, is pleased.
This extra money helps deliver more projects. Active travel is a top priority. They want greener, fairer travel. They want people to leave the car at home. This creates safer streets and cleaner air.
Angus Ellis, from Peterborough, is very happy. The funding helps complete a new cycle route. Walking, wheeling, or cycling boosts wellbeing and also improves air quality. This reduces traffic on the roads. Since 2020, councils worked hard to improve things. They want people to walk and cycle more. They are making it easier for everyone.
