A dealer planned to smuggle drugs there 35 years ago. Julian Chisholm hasn’t been caught.
He wanted fellow Scots to sneak in cocaine. It was worth £100 million. Chisholm worked as a diver before. He pitched a drug smuggling plan to a cartel.
The Cali Cartel liked his idea. Chisholm had smuggled cannabis in Spain before. The experience helped him focus on cocaine. It seemed much more profitable.
Half a tonne of gold was worth less than cocaine. Iain F Macleod said cocaine was worth £100 million. The drugs would spread across the UK from the Highlands. The area was ideal because few people lived there. Authorities wouldn’t notice easily.
Police learned about Chisholm’s plan. He still lived in Spain at the time. He recruited six people from Scotland. They chose a beach near Drumbeg. The beach was called Clashnessie.
Cocaine bales dropped from a plane off Trinidad. The drugs went onto a ship. It sailed to Scotland during a storm. Workers used a dinghy to collect the cocaine. Then, they took it to Dundee for delivery.
Police learned about the shipment. They thought it contained cannabis at first. Officers found £100 million worth of cocaine. Chisholm’s workers got arrested.
He was arrested in southern Spain. He went to Fontcalent prison. It was full of dangerous criminals. Chisholm escaped during a prison transfer. He slipped his handcuffs and fled.
He remains on the run after 30 years. Chisholm is still a wanted criminal.
