A vulnerable Goeldi’s monkey was born at Northumberland College Zoo, aiding species conservation efforts.

The little monkey is doing well there, helping to save its kind. The species is “vulnerable,” according to a nature group’s list.
This zoo is part of a breeding program and got two monkeys in 2023. They hope to grow the number of monkeys. Awareness is another goal for them and they also want to help protect where the monkeys live.
Steven Sykes manages resources at the zoo. He said he was happy about the birth and explained they support the species’ survival. The program helps the wild Goeldi’s monkeys.
Lacey Gallagher studies animals at the college. She was excited to see the baby monkey and learns about caring for them. This college offers conservation breeding experience.
Rainforest destruction makes the species vulnerable. The zoo breeds monkeys in captivity to help with conservation efforts. The zoo is open weekends and school breaks from 10 AM to 4 PM.
