Hey, guess what happened in Newquay? Cornwall Council made a hotel deal! It’s for a Courtyard by Marriott near the airport. People thought the council wasn’t even trying.

The hotel project will bring money into the area. About £30 million will be invested directly. Also, it will create 30 new full-time jobs. This should help Newquay and Cornwall a lot.

Earlier this year, people were mad. They said the council stopped talking about the hotel. The council was also trying to ‘privatize’ the airport. The hotel folks were worried it stalled their deal.

Fairbairn Capital wanted to build the Marriott hotel. They talked to the council back in 2022. The council had land ready at Aerohub Business Park. It already had permission for a hotel.

Fairbairn made an offer in December 2022. They agreed on key terms in February. But then, the council started on the airport deal. The hotel folks said the council went quiet then.

Someone involved said the council could lose two deals. They claimed nobody contacted them. The source said the Marriott deal was then at risk due to inaction. It would be through inactivity.

The hotel project almost filed a legal complaint. The airport deal with Adynaton/Westcore caused concern. But it did not go through, as the hotel deal was agreed.

Legal stuff still needs to be worked out. They expect to apply for planning permission this year. So far, the deal looks good for the Courtyard by Marriott.

Councilor David Harris is happy about the deal. He also mentioned the plan for the airport. He then said they keep talking to their preferred partner. That is good news!
